Friday's post

Its been a pretty manic week, lot of academic stuff going on that i shall not go into due to the simple fact that it isn't that interesting, unless you have a keen interest in the development of the Sonnet.. no, didn't think so.

But a great week for building Houses and House music in general.
Loving the new site and the feedback has been great. Always open to criticism/ suggestions/ general praise (the latter especially).

Happy to report we will be bringing you features on a personal favourite of mine who is taking the Electro-House scene by storm at the present, PORTER ROBINSON. The guy is young, fresh and litteraly about to explode with fresh material. Check out his Beatport topping 'Say My Name' for the context and get ready to meet the future of Electro-House.

Joining me again is Anthonio Piacquadio (used to be DJ A-Luv). If you read our first feature you may well know that Anthonio is one of the key figures behind the legendary NYC instalment of Sankeys that will be hosting the hottest parties for the Big Apple from early next year. This time around we talked New York City, the thriving but once thwarted club-scene and Piacquadio's studio and DJ work under his new (but original) alias. Always a pleasure to talk to this guy and the copy will speak for itself.

Our lead features for next month come from the legendary figurehead of Toolroom Records, Mark Knight, as well as the innovative and incomparable Trance/House force Sander Van Doorn. Two very big players in my life/ career. Thrilled to have them on the site.

Later this year we will be catching up with the Legendary Louie Vega, Holland's freshest home-act Afrojack, Bedrock legend John Diweed, Cadenza's exciting trooper Reboot, the infectious Aussie producer Yolanda Be Cool, Toolrooms glowing contender Thomas Gold, the Zimmerman approved Moguai and so many more!

WISH I WAS AT ADE. But alas, education calls for one final year. Fuck that for reality.

All the best, the utmost love and respect, and don't forget to stop by my gaff ;)

New look, New artists, NEW NEW NEW

Hectic week or so of revamping but the finished article is looking good... may be changing again next month but we wont be shutting our doors as a result.

Anyway, here are our three features-

The hilarious and ever popular Laiback Luke- http://www.thehousedanbuilt.co.uk/#/laidback-luke/4544713409

Mr nice of British House, Seamus Haji, who chatted to me about Big Love Records- http://www.thehousedanbuilt.co.uk/#/seamus-haji/4543193206

and not forgetting Aussie chart-toppers TV Rock- http://www.thehousedanbuilt.co.uk/#/tv-rock/4544715364

These were some really satisfying interviews with me. TV Rock where a new but great breath of fresh air and i really would urge people to check them out. They have truly exploded in Aus and i reckon they will do the same over here.

Seamus and i chatted whilst i was in Ibiza back in July and patched the pieces up over the next two months. I admire his work at Big Love and generally his dedication to the trade.

Luke was on my radar from day one and he lived up to expectations- funny, charasmatic and yet pretty damn professional.

We have a couple more articles coming with the charming D. Ramirez and Chicago entrepreneur/ House DJ and vocalist Ron Carroll. Both great guys who are doing something truly special. Cannot wait to bring you these features!

some good news for our Aussie cousins with Armin only in Melbourne and the SummaDayze festival- big names in the sun all the way! We also have a sneak peek at the new Tensnake 'Coma Cat' video, check this out here- http://www.thehousedanbuilt.co.uk/#/tensnake-coma-cat/4544715672

Anyways- peace out and keep posted through here :)

HOUSECALL- Max Vangeli

Milford Sound in New Zealand
Before 2010, Max Vangeli was the DJ and producer that some of the biggest names in House music were talking about, eagerly awaiting the Eastern European newcomer’s explosion onto the House scene with the unstoppable force of his dynamic and melodic sound.

With a host of dates supporting the Swedish house mafia, an exclusive headline show in one of Miami’s hottest clubs and two of the most highly anticipated remixes in House music under his belt, you could excuse Max Vangeli for being Starry Eyed right now!

This year so far has seen the San Francisco based producer take his melody driven House sound to clubs and parties around the globe, taking fans to the next level. In light of this new found success, Vangeli is far from blind to the dramatic turn his career has taken.

He said: “It has really been amazing, lots of exciting stuff has been happening for me so far. Touring has given me an opportunity to really test out my records in front of crowds and get them perfected. Also, working with amazing people in the industry and releasing records on labels like SIZE and Refune has been a blessing many people in the industry could only dream of.”

Along the way, Vangeli has been able to home in on his sound and exactly what it is that keeps bringing the crowds in search of his incredibly distinct sound. He said: “I would say it is all about melodies, and hooks. For me if there is no hook or amazing melody - there is no music, so I think this is my strongest point.”

This is something that Max feels is lacking elsewhere in the dance music industry at the present time. “Lots of producers come and go just because they get lucky with some sounds, but for my music I like to think of it long term because melodies live FOREVER.”

Vangeli is living the epitome of any DJ or producers wildest dreams, having caught the attention of House music’s most celebrated characters. Early in his career Vangeli was spotted by no other than the Progressive House master Laidback Luke, who took him under his wing and mentored the San Francisco based producer in his production techniques. This was a lesson that Vangeli would never forget. “I was so appreciative of what Laidback Luke did for me, he was always there to answer production questions for me when I was starting out.” As a result, the producer now hosts a forum on his website allowing aspiring producers to grill him for advice. He added: “The least I could do was carry on in the same vein as the guy did for me and pass on the experience. I think it is important to help out when you get a chance because at the end of the day we were all in the same shoes at one stage,” he said. This practice see’s Max go through hundreds of demos and questions on a weekly basis, a time-consuming but necessary practice in the young producers eyes.

“It takes a lot of time to go through all the demos, but once again I know how much it means to starting producers so I answer every single one I get...good or bad.”

Other key players within the industry have wised on to the mans talent since Laidback Luke first showed interest, most notably Sweden’s finest export- Swedish House Mafia. To Vangeli, their support has been a key element to his success within the industry and something that he is eternally grateful for. He explained: “It is an amazing feeling and I think their support has a lot to do with my success. When you have the best in the business supporting your work it really does not get any better than that.”

Size Records owner, House Mafia master and incredibly successful producer Steve Angello has inspired Vangeli endlessly in his quest to crack the industry, a figure for whom his gratitude just about outweighs the opportunity to be starstruck. He said “Steve has been a massive help in my career thus far and I can’t thank him enough for everything he has done. I really do feel blessed.

“The guy is a work-horse. He is just generally amazing at everything he touches, be it House, Pop, Hip-Hop, it all turns to gold. I am absolutely infatuated with his work ethic.”

This relationship with SHM has seen Vangeli secure support slots at their sold-out dates at Brixton Academy, as well as at the Dark Forest for their annual residency at Pacha, Ibiza. Our man from San Fran doesn’t seem the least bit anxious, but feels he has earnt this exclusive ticket-to-ride.

“I don’t know how to say this, but I am so ready for these dates it is untrue,” he said, adding: “I worked my ass off to get this far and finally the time has come. It’s going to be an amazing rollercoaster ride and I am completely ready for it!”

Vangeli will join AN21 for regular support slots, another label mate who he has released a spat of singles and remixes with on various labels, including the recent release ‘Gama’ on Size Records. When asked what attracts him to working with AN21 as much as he does, he explained: “I think we both have very similar styles and working together is a breeze. It works, we love it, and apparently the fans love it, so what else can I say?”

The duo recently embarked on a full scale assault of British music, which included remixes of budding UK singer Ellie Goulding’s ‘Starry-Eyed Surprise’, and the Prodigy’s dance-cult classic: ‘Smack My Bitch Up’.

Gouldings 2010 chart hit presented the producer with a vocal offering that he just could not ignore. “Ellie was just an AMAZING singer with an offering which I could not resist. We had no idea she was going to blow up the way she did, so the decision was made purely on the melodies. I’m such a sucker for amazing vocals, and we just knew this was it.” The remix was such a success that it was added to the revised edition of Goulding’s album.

‘Smack My Bitch Up’ was an offering that could not be turned down by the duo. “This was a PURE classic and it just felt right to give it a go. When Prodigy was done i was like...WOW...we will ROCK this! People have been going crazy for it at WMC Miami and the volume of requests for it has assured us this was a good move”.

Milford Sound in New Zealand
After the events of the last six months, anyone would have thought that Max Vangeli would be looking to rest his body and soul, if only for a while. Well, you thought wrong!

“To be honest, I live in my studio,” he confessed. “At this point in my life it is all about the music for me. I don’t think I have gotten to the point yet where relaxing and anything else is the one goal in life...and that helps me to get my music heard all around the world! Maybe in a few years I can slow down a bit and focus on other things, but right now its ALL about the music and figuring out what’s next in house music.”

For now then, Max will continue this pioneering approach into the ever-progressive industry. The budding producer has much more to offer the House scene before the year is done. “Fans can expect lots and lots of shows all around the world, but more importantly I will be slowing down on my remix work and focusing on original productions. I am going to be doing a lot of releases on SIZE and continue growing as a producer.”

Those gripped by Vangeli’s remixes need not despair though, for what is to follow before this slowing down process is a truly exciting exit. He explained: “This summer will see me and AN21 mixing some truly awesome tracks from Gorrilaz and Erick Morillo, to name a few. After that it is all about original releases, which I am really excited about!”

The guy knows his sound and has mastered his industry, while maintaining respect for his majors and fans alike. Essentially, Vanegli has never been more certain of one thing. In his own words: “HOUSE MUSIC IS WHAT I DO!”

Catch Max live with SHM and AN21 @ the Dark Fprest, Pacha Ibiza August 8 and 30, as well as at the legendary Creamfields festival August 29.

Newsflash

Like the dance music industry, THE HOUSE DAN BUILT understands the need for progression in any line of work, writing being no exception.
The vibe so far from peoples reactions has been outstanding. For so many years ive wanted to write about and promote the music i love. What i feel neccessary now is that the blog is given close attention in design and maintainence to allow for an overall enjoyment of the exclusie mataerials.
As a result, the blog will be a tri-weekly offering as of May 17th, hitting the web on Mondays(Radar), Wednesdays (Tunes) and either Fridays or Saturdays (party permiting)for an essential pre-weekend update. This is an attempt to ensure a continuous standard of quality within the publications.
Me and my cupboard of internet experts are also looking into putting a HOUSE DAN BUILT player on the page. Obviously there is every legal consideration under the sun, but this will be more effective than the current youtube posts.
Artwork is going to be a key part of this project, so feel free to email me any graphics i can use in promoting myself, or promotional material from third parties to use in blogs.

In further news, HOUSECALL will be hitting the blog very soon with a series of exclusive interviews. Visitors soon to bless my gaff include Stealth Records sexiest weapon Roger Sanchez, Amo and Navas of Fresco Records and a wealth of the finest up-and-coming UK acts.

Thanks for your support of all things House Music. Keep spreading the word, get lost in the music and remember you heard it first at THE HOUSE DAN BUILT!

John Dahlback-Mutants
The quality of the music produced by John Dahlback is undeniable. So good, in fact, that this album celebrates the formation of his new UK based label Mutants, a hub for his own releases as well as some his favorite up-and-coming artists. As an album, mutants brings together some of his finest work, including Ingrosso collaboration Lick My Deck, his epic Defected release Autumn and the legendary Dirty South cut of Pyramid. This album acts as The perfect introduction to Sweden's new house master or the bible to one of the freshest faces in the industry.

ATFC Feat. Rae- Its Over
The legend himself is back with an epic offering of uplifting vocal house. It's Over (ATFC's Lektotrek Remix) makes you wonder why you ever purchased an instrumental in your life. This is an inspiring offering from London's own house-legend with a little help from Rae on the vocal front!

Fine Tune Records bring us a key-driven gem from Hot Champagne withDon't Make Me Wait. Epic keys lead to the stiff lead that makes this tune worth the wait for its eventual iTunes release.

Bringing us one step closer to summer with this latin-laced brass beauty courtesy of Analog People in a Digital World VS Tim Deuluxe with Just Won't Do (Atfc VS Warren Clarke Remix). The Week in House

-Tunes-

Deadmau5 returns fresh from a spat of UK dates with Some Chords. The Canadian electro-house connoisseur has gone to town on this painfully strong offering on Mau5. Taking the usual Mau5trap trip from mellow chords and atmospherics to heavy pulsing electro house, this track ticks every box. For Lack of a Better Explanation, this is a electro house for the masses!

My next pick is my household favourite Afrojack vs The Party Squad with a Msterdamn. This is scatty electro House just as we like it. No cheap thrills, just a pounding beat and the fidgety synths that A-Jack practically owns.

Eddie Thoneick and Erick Morrilo present an epic portion of vocal house on Subliminal with Nothing Better. Setting the standard for a summer of residency at Pacha, Morillo has produced a chunk of subliminal house magic! The soulful vocals of Shena on Morillo’s bass-laden canvas works perfectly in this incredible collaboration.

BugEyed Records have fuelled the Electro House scene with gem after gem. Lazy Rich & Hirshy carry on the winning streak with Blast Off!. This offering finds itself somewhere between Ian Carey and The Toxic Avenger. The tunes filthy bass, crunchy leads and an infectious vocal line make this a tasty collaboration from a label that should be a household name by now!

German pioneers the Tune Brothers have hit Sume records HARD with High Energy 2010 (Tune Brothers Kob Mix), a funky offering of this instant club classic. For a Subliminal-esque vibe, give the High Energy 2010 (Tune Brothers Alert Mix) a try.

Finally, a funky little number on Checktime Records has caught my attention. Mariospray & Morris Corti have hit the digital world with Follow Me, an exquisite fusion of exotic Latin rhythms, funky brass vibes and a worthy vocal offering from Eleonora Rossi. Here is a tune that perfectly captures the energy and spirit of house music.

*Preview*
THE HOUSE DAN BUILT will not only be bringing you the best in new releases, but presents HOUSECALL. This series of interviews is your ticket to meet some of the masters of House music. Guests on HOUSECALL include Roger Sanchez, Amo and Navas of Fresco Records and Stealth Record’s Surrey connection Jason Chance, plus many more.

The Darling Buds of May

Pinch, Punch, First of the month! What better time to look at what May has to offer the world of House music!

Tunes

Strictly Rhythm presents a compilation mixed by one of House music's most celebrated and influential producers, Bob Sinclar.
The french pioneer has gone mad on Stricly's back-catalog, making a sensational blend of new and old tunes meet in a compilation that really does cover. My recommended cuts include Avicii's take on Sinclars own New New New, or ATFC's
I Called U (ATFC Conversation killer mix). The album is a gorgeous fusion of the spirit of the old school house sound with the rigor of the current electronic sound, despite falling into the predictable mainstream sound of Bob Sinclar on occasions. Whether your looking for an introduction to House or to back up your collection with a few older gems, this is an album worth checking out. Pre-orders for May 5th are available from on iTunes.

Dennis Ferrer has topped every reputable DJ's charts with this sought-after hit and the remixes e.p on Defected brings a new light to one of the most infectious House releases of the last year. With cuts from the likes of Crookers, Vandalism and Tom De Neef, these fresh takes are definitely worth a listen. The original needs little-to-no improvement, but nevertheless the remixes are fresh be sure to give them a listen and purchase HERE on May 5th.

Defected truly set the standard for the whole party season with In The House Ibiza 09 and are not showing any signs of letting standards slip this year.
The album is massive! From exclusive tunes like DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto-Vem Rebola (Main Acid Mix), to new life from Paul Thomas, Sonny Wharton & Ant Brooks with Brass!, the compilation brings together some of the finest tracks in existence. As well as new blood, familiar faces from camp Defected are in abundance, including the likes of Copyright with Circuit Break from the new 'One Track Mind's e.p) and Riva Starr's cut of Reboot's Enjoy Music. It has everything, the funky vibes, epic drops and overall this compilation encapsulates the energy that makes Ibiza what it is. This is the soundtrack to the summer sun and i couldn't recommend investing in this album enough. Snap it up in HMV or on iTunes from May 24th, but meanwhile give it a listen here HERE.

Once again Size records have me excited in the form of this truly epic e.p from Kim Fai. Better known for his legendary cut of Steve Angello's 'Isabel', Birmingham based Fai is back on May 19th with two landmark offerings: P.S & Kato. 'P.S' is close and mechanical sounding offering, dropping into a smooth trance-like build-up on occasions, while 'Kato' fashions that epic and progressive sound that Size clearly have an ear for, Ingrosso style strings and all! This guy is going to be huge, so make sure you catch him supporting Swedish House Mafia on May 28th @ Brixton academy, Pacha Ibiza on June 21st or at the legendary Ministry of Sound June 12th with Dave Spoon and TV Rock.

Radar
It has been long overdue, but finally Laidback Luke will be blessing the city of London. Catch the Netherland's finest @ Matter May 29th with support from Bart B More and Electro-Houses finest Wolfgang Gartner
Don't forget that May is the month of random House nights. BINGO PLAYERS & RIVA STARR take on the Middlesbrough Arena May 30th, while Southampton's Junk plays host to Defected once again with no less ATFC and Shovell in attendance on May 8th. Also, Foamo and Lee Mortimer go head-to-head May 22nd with 'Superman' at Leeds University union for a night of ridiculously heavy music!

ATFC+Shovell @ Junk, Southampton.
A little bit of exciting news for my Southern friends here at The House Dan Built. Defected will be bringing their legendary name to Junk, Southampton of all places. The line-up boasts none other than London legend ATFC and percussion pioneer Shovell. It is a rare occasion that Defected hit such a small venue and at a meagre £7 entry, this promises to be an amazing night of house music. Click here for more details and be sure to see what all the hype is about.

When it comes to ATFC, this Essential Mix from their Defected In The House London 2010 compilation give the best inclination of the essence of ATFC, strong and deep dropping house music. Add Shovell's magical percussion skills and this night promises to be an absolute treat. Here is a little peek at what to expect:

A Week in House (Commencing 26/04)

The Tracks

This week marks a special one for house music, one that will potentially set the tone for the coming year of dance music. Swedish House Mafia’s ‘One’ hit the number one spot on Beatport in a matter of hours and could well be the most highly anticipated dance release of the year. Our boys Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso have never failed to disappoint over the last year. Fresh off the mark from Miami Winter Music Conference, the Dons of House present with an epic portion of electro house. Expect to hear this at every turn, at every club, in every country across the world. Don’t just take my word for it though, check out One now! Be sure to catch them when they bless London’s Brixton Academy on May 29th or every Monday night at Pacha, Ibiza, for a definitive lesson in House music at the Dark Forest. You won’t regret it!

Next up are House mavericks David Amo and Julio Navas on No Respect Records with ‘Who is Elvis? 2010 (Part 1)’. This is a great number from the Spanish legends behind Fresco Records, blending a fusion of the current electronic fuelled hype with a funky little backbone to it. My recommended cut would be the David Ano & Julio Navas Remix Avoid the dodgy techno remixes on the e.p and give this little gem a blast. Some producers manage to exhaust sampling. Luckily, this is tune has enough spirit and pulse to avoid such tedium.

2010 has seen Size records produce some truly inspiring music and my next selection shows that Angello still has a few tricks up his sleeve, the latest being Paul Thomas, Sonny Wharton and Ant Brooks with Brass! Angello has always had a thing for Brass samples and this tune captures the instrumental mash up perfectly. The trumpets are epic, the drop fits perfectly and the rhythm is tighter than a nuns undergarments. This is the spirit of Ibiza’s house scene encapsulated for me and I predict this tune will be exhausted this season. Another musical victory for the crew at Camp Size, they are certainly making the road to Summer a promising one.

It is rare that a track comes along that gets me hooked on the first listen, though my next pick did exactly this. Sweat It Out Records present Yoldanda Be Cool and DCup- We Speak No Americano, a fresh little offering for fans of Riva Starr’s Euro vibes and Afrojack’s dirty leads. The original mix could do with a little tempo tap, but stands out as an infectious offering from the Australian duo.

Steve Smooth has been on my Radar for some time now and finally, the patience has been rewarded. The American progressive house master presents us with So High ft. Luvli on Ultra Records. This is electro house for the masses, providing the slick vocals of Luvli on a canvas of steady flowing electro beats.

My recommended cut, however, would be the Inphinity & Kalendr Remix , a much dirtier and techno sounding offering of this outstanding track. I hope this has set the standard for Smooth’s future offerings.

On the electro house front Tiger records present Squeeze- Doop (club mix). It was only a matter of time before ‘Hear the Drummer Get Wicked’ got the House renovation it deserved and this is a truly inspiring offering. Once again, the Afrojack/ Sidney Samson vibes are there, but the track stands out thanks to a little original flare from Squeeze.

Fresh off the mark from ‘Just Bleep Me (Satisfaction), Dada life are back swinging with new tune Cookies With a Smile on Big Dirty Records. This tune is a gloriously filthy offering from the Swedish duo which even Tiesto will struggle to keep his thieving paws off. Heavy like Justice, but with a very Dahlback/ Deadmau5 overtone to it. In my eyes this is the equation for Progressive House perfection. These guys are really standing out from the crowd in a scene that some would argue is becoming ever more overcrowded.

Finally, Jose Nunez ‘Bilingual 2010’ has been given a group refurbishment on Subliminal. While each offering on the e.p brings something fresh to the table, my recommended cuts would be the Jon Flores Undercool Remix, a more coarse electro driven offering,

Or the Yanick Coen Miami Mix, bringing a fresh and funky rhythmic vibe to this immediate club classic. There is nothing more satisfying than finding an excuse to shout ‘You fucking me makes me bilingual’ in any situation, may these fine remixes give us many more excuse to!

RADAR
On my radar this week is Ibiza, every house lovers ideal holiday destination. I am happy to announce an exciting line-up of house music throughout July. Defected will be taking there always-welcome residency at Pacha every Saturday, kicking off 3rd July with John Dahlback and ATFC, followed on 10th July by the Legendary Bob Sinclar and Dutch housemasters Chocolate Puma. Riva Starr blesses the club July 17th with Junior Jack and Kid Crème, with David Morales and David Penn bringing the noise July 24th. As if this wasn’t enough, rounding off an amazing month of music is no other than the master of all things funky, Kenny Dope and NY legend Quentin Harris on the 31st.

Once again Roger Sanchez will be blessing Amnesia with ‘Release Yourself’, every Tuesday, as well as Chester Racecourse on May 1st for those of you without the funds for Spain.

David Guetta’s ‘F*** Me Im Famous’, every Thursday at Pacha is always going to be an amazing night of dance music, no matter who is in support. However, my recommendation would be July 29th, when he is joined by Toolroom legend Mark Night. Expect numerous special appearances from the French producer's little black book of collaborators over this season!

Closer to home, I can confirm that John Dahlback will be hitting Ministry of Sound on August 14th, preparing us for Autumn with a round of “Bingo”. Check the official website for Ministry over the next month or two for a full line-up.
Enjoy what little sun the UK is given, get lost in the weeks incredible music offering and essentially, spread the love. Remember, you heard it HERE first at The House Dan Built.

A week in House (19/04)

I am sat on a sun lounger looking out onto a lagoon North of the beautiful Maldivian island of Kuramathi. I am not meant to be here, but the scene and this weeks picks are enough to make being stranded on a small island a little more bearable.
This weeks picks got me very excited. First up is an epic offering on Stricly from two of houses main contenders: Dirty South and Bob Sinclar. Their new release, ‘The Russian March’ takes the essence of both artists sounds: Sinclar’s jungle-esque rhythms and Dirty South’s synth-driven melodic bliss, presenting us with a unique and rich offering that probably shouldn’t work in theory, but is sure to be a pleaser in clubs across the globe (thank god the internet can hack volcanos!). find the Original Mix Here and keep your eyes and ears peeled for the remixes, cause I could see some of the Size Records crowd getting involved with this Gem. Epic Hum line!
Next up is John Dahlback: Bingo on Defected. Dahlback’s talent as a producer is undeniable and this new offering is certainly a dynamic tune, with a glorious electro house front that goes in all the right directions of a club classic. Where it not for the tedious vocal-line I would probably sing this song’s praises, but regrettably this is an element that retracts from the tune’s appeal for this house music lover. Maybe future remixes will make amends of this, cause it is certainly not a dud track from the man.
Finally, I am pleased to announce the latest offering from Sandy Riviera: Cosmo Bar (Sandy Riviera’s Cosmo Bar Album Mix on Blackwiz. This track has a great progressive vibe to it and Sandy is definitely back at his best. The Bar album mix is tight and hopefully sets the standard for more Riviera magic this year.
Those are my fresh picks of the latest releases, though on the horizon we have Kim Fai's 'P.S' and 'Kato' on Size Records hitting the digital world on May 5th. The tracks are sounding real fresh and are definitely a tribute to Angello’s ever-growing army at Size Records. You can here this on the Size records Facebook group if the wait is just too much.

Now to what is going on down South. My friends at Ministry have some epic nights on the horizon, kicking off this Saturday with Defected’s always-legendary visit to Ministry of Sound. Our boy Sandy Riviera will be celebrating his new release, as well as Riva Starr blessing the dance floor with highlights from his latest Miami 2010 mix. Quentin Harris and The Jinx are also in attendance to make this unforgettable night of house music.

Pinch, punch, first of the month see’s the boys at Toolroom Records bless The Box, with the man with red face; Mark Knight headlining, as well as sets from Chris Lake and Tocadisco. Knight is always an act not worth missing, so don’t be one of the unlucky few that doesn’t witness the best of Toolroom’s arsenal!
May 21st see’s a special line up bless the box, with dance god Pete Tong hosting the likes of Afrojack and Funkagenda, two of house music’s hottest DJ’s doing the rounds. 103 also plays host to Houses of House, strutting the NYC sound that is always a pleasure to hear on these shores. This is a night not to be missed.

Finally, Ministry have one last treat in store for May. Soul Heaven hits the floors on the 29th with no other than the funky likings of Louie Vega and Joey Negro, as the take you back to house in its purest form. This will be special, so wherever you are in the country, you will want to get yourself down to see both these house legends under the same roof.

Our friends in Cardiff have a real treat headed their way on the 30th April in the form of our Southern-Fried friend Claude VonStroke. This minimal master is bringing a night of subtle house beauty to Cardiff’s Club Ifor Bach for one night only with support from fresh local blood Paul Loraine and Robert Cashin. Those of you in Bristol or the surrounding areas don’t want to miss this stunning night of minimal house and techno.

So wherever you are, whether your stranded or safely at home, enjoy music, spread the love and remember: You heard it here at The House That Dan Built.

For the love of House

Before i depart the country in search of sun, sea and new music, here is my line-up of the years finest offerings so far:

1- Wolfgang Gartner- Undertaker Heavy and dirty, stand out tune for 2010!

2- Riva Starr- I Was Drunk (original mix) Such a nice flowing tune on Riva's behalf and begs some good remixes

3- Alan Fitzpatrick- Reflections (original mix) Just a beautiful track, the synths flow so smoothly throughout

4-Dennis Ferrer-Hey Hey (DF's attention vocal mix) Catchy and contagious, beautiful little minimal number

5-Dj Gregory and Sidney Samson-Dama S Salon (Mastiksoul Dub Remix) Its NOT Riverside, but the rhythms are infectious and despite the random noises in the dub this mix is golden.

6- Tiesto Feat. Nelly Furtado-Who Wants To Be Alone (Robbie Rivera Juicy Remix Edit) Tiesto may have got a little dull, but Riviera puts some life into what was a very limp offering

7- Reboot- Enjoy Music (Riva Starr Remix) One of the more popular of Defected's releases this year. The sound speaks for itself.

8- Crookers-Natural Born Hustler feat. Pitbull A Little different, but give it a go and expect some sound remixes. Proof that the journey over to mainstream music doesn't have to be lifeless

9- Jason Derulo- Watcha Say (Afrojack Remix) A lovely little gem among the countless r&b transformations. This dance-floor filler has been taken to another level thanks to our pal Afrojack.

10- Ellie Goulding- Starry Eyed (Max Vangeli & AN21 Remix) Two of my favourite dj's take one of the year's most unique chart hits and give a 'Sizeable' remode. Quality reworking from Angello's boys.

All you lovely people have a great Easter weekend. Chill out, hit the clubs, enjoy good company, food, drink and most importantly, music. These have been my highlights of 2010 at The House That Dan Built.

'Shut up and hear this out'

'Shut up and hear this out...'
The success of Sidney Samson's recent work can't be denied, even by those that didn't appreciate the vocal re-work of 'Riverside', which from what i have heard MADE many people's European vacation last year.

Well good news is that our lad from the Netherlands has a new club-banger on its way. CR2 records will finally be releasing 'Shut up and let it go' on the 25th April, and our boy on the Riverside hasn't lost his touch. Ive had a sneaky peak at the e.p, which features three good offerings of the track. Samson has Lady Bee working the main mix vocals, which can be found HERE. However, my hot pick would personally be the Chuckie Remix. He gives this tune a good working with the same 'Im In Miami, Bitch' vibe, but with a bigger pulse and a much rounder sound. The tune itself is catchy enough to grab the big crowds and despite the fact that 'Riverside' was always going to be a tough track to match, i like its chances on the club circuit and even in the charts. Hell, after Angello and Laidback Luke did it with 'Show Me Love', i would not be surprised if Samson hit the note again with 'Shut up and let it go'. I hope, however, that the 'Riverside' hype does not deflate this great track's chances.
Those of you who are impatient can nab the Jacob Plant remix on last months Miami 2010 CR2 Miami Live and Direct compilation This is a sick little collection to get you in the mood with some of the sweeter and more subtle names that where hitting this years Miami Winter Music Conference. I would recommend holding on till the end of April and keeping your ears peeled for mixes on the sneak, as this could be a landmark tune for our pal Sidney.

Another week in House (29th March-4th April)

Many thanks to all you music lovers who have given this spot a go. It has been another exciting week for dance music and this week i have the best picks of the weeks releases.

My first pick for the week is Swen Weber's 'Time for Samba' e.p on Southern Fried Records. The e.p is pretty fresh, bringing a beefy sound to the world of Jungle Brother's samples in 'Back to the Old-School'. On the whole, this crunchy minimal offering is worth a listen, though the title track is the only stand-out for me. Check it out here: Time For Samba .

Funkagenda also bring a new offering this week in the form of 'Afterclub' on Toolroom Records. Despite being very good at what they do, something falls flat in the overall sound of 'Afterclub', while the pacing tech-riffs keep afloat some of the finer memories of Funkagenda's sound, it is the Stu Foster and Drew Scott Remix that makes something epic out of this tune, keeping afloat some of the finer memories of Funkagenda's rich house sound. The Riva Starr Remix is worth a listen for a funkier Miami-sounding take on the song. Overall a slightly disappointing offering from Toolroom legends Funkagenda that is saved by some fresh and exciting remixes.

Roger Sanchez is back in town with new release '2Gether' on Stealth Records. This tune is massive. Sampling from b52's 'Love shack', Sanchez serves a helping or raw and funky house that gradually evolves into a strangely satisfying electronic offering. It is hard to put this sound into words, so check it out yourself Here
Finally, Defected present an exciting new track from Ridney and James Talk in the form of 'Forever'. I have only had the pleasure of hearing the original mix, but this stands on its own legs as a definite hit. This song captures the essence of a typical Ibiza summer for me, flowing throughout like a Defected House-Hit should, building you up and dropping you into a perfect arrangement of rhythm and synths. check it out Here. This song is going to be massive, FACT.

SO, Easter has kicked in an there are a good couple of weeks at your mercy, but what to do? Well, i am going to suggest you head on down to Subliminal at Matter on April 17th for Erick Morillo and the mafia man himself, Sebastian Ingrosso. With the huge sound of Morillo and Ingrosso's legendary productions the night is sure to be nothing short of epic, plus with support from Cedric Gervais, Yousef and Kim Fai, this could be one of the best house nights London will see this year.

I will be in the Maldives for the next two weeks getting up on my tracks and getting ready to bring you straight coverage through to Summer, where this baby will be going daily for all you party people headed to Ibiza for what is shaping to be another legendary season. On that note, one love, and you heard it hear at The House That Dan Built.

The week in house (20th-27th March)

Old Benassi favorite 'Satisfaction' has seen a 2010 re-work just in time to build some hype for the forthcoming season. I am usually skeptical of re-runs of classic tunes (take the unnecessary re-mode of Fatboy Slim's 'Praise you' by Fedde Le Grand or PVD's 'For an Angel' 2009 remix), but luckily a fresh take has made this classic club floor shaker a welcome blast from the past. Sub Assasins 2010 remix would be my recommended cut, standing out from the other four three mixes which fail to bring anything fresh to the table.

The week has seen some highly anticipated mixes bring the ever popular Miami sound back to the UK. Riva Starr's offering with Defected Miami 2010 is fresh, though mainly for Riva's own offerings (check out 'Maria' dub edit, as well as his remix of Lake and Lys 'La Tromba': funky and brass orientated the whole way. Some say that Defected are a one trick pony but when it comes to house they are still throwing a lot of diverse dance music our way. Miami 2010 is no exception. Add a nice chunk of Steve Angello and label mates AN21 and we have a mix that flows with the precise energy that has been sending people crazy for so many years. Despite being a different sound, i would argue this tops Defected Amsterdam and comes within range of their Ibiza 2009 mix, a tough feat, though i eagerly anticipate Ibiza 2010.

Toolroom record's Miami 2010 offering is not quite as inspirational, though obviously we are talking about a completely different side of the Miami sound. Mark Knight, Funkagenda and Dirty South offerings make this number, while the staggeringly uninspiring David Guetta offering 'Grrr' suggests that his travels over to the world of R&b have not done house music any favors. Let's not write him off just yet though as we all know he is capable of beautiful music despite this dodgy release.

On the singles front we have new offering from Afrojack on Size Records with 'Pacha on Acid'. Whether the Acid sound is your thing or not this tune is big and i would be interested to see some of the remixes that are going to come out of this. While the tune itself isn't life changing it serves as a nice addition to the heavy sound of Afrojack. Watch this space!

On the Electro-house front the winner this week is Wolfgang Gartner with 'Undertaker'. Once again a gorgeous offering of filthy Justice-esque electro with some of the workings of a potential Maustrap masterpiece. Sounding better than any recent Deadmau5 offering and i know this is going to be working the circuits for the next few months. Epic little number.

Blast from the past for this week is Laidback Luke-'Hey' (Foamo remix). Still heavier and dirtier than anything i have heard before. Gorgeous tune that does down like nothing else in the clubs.

Signing out for this week. Check the tunes on Beatport, Itunes or the always reliable (and free) Youtube and don't forget you heard the word here at The House That Dan Built.
